veteran artists during their lifetime, honoring late artists—pioneers of culture
and arts in Syria, and creating a forest in which every olive tree is named
after each artist. Additionally, MAS aims at initiating a monthly gathering
between ordinary Syrians and the particular artist, to exchange views,
experiences, and ideas.
- Third Jasmine
Campaign: April 14th
"For Damascus to become the City of Jasmine—Again." That was the motto of the
city-wide campaign, held by MAS Group in collaboration with the Arab-European
Cooperation Center, the Friends of Damascus Society, and the Association for
Women Role Development. More than 5000 volunteers gathered in the Miskiyyeh
Square at the gates of the Umayyad Mosque in the Old City, planting more than
10,000 jasmine saplings in different gardens of Damascus. The campaign tried to
link between Jasmine - the most popular flower in Damascus, and love for one's
city and one's nation. It championed volunteerism, and how collectively, the
Syrians in general can make a change, complimenting whatever the government is
doing. It also encouraged people, on an individual basis, to plant jasmine in
their gardens to beautify both the city and its environment. Following the
Jasmine-planting campaign, a carnival followed, containing music, dancing, and
poetry.
